Secutech Thailand roundtable discussion and seminar 25-26 Jan. 2011

Market Insights from Roundtable Discussion

  • The industry started to see signs of a market rebound since Q4 in 2010 and this growth is expected to continue into 2011 with anticipated growth rate of more than 30%. The key driving forces are the increasing awareness towards security and safety among the public and more affordable security products.
  • While analogue is still the mainstream, IP is preferred by government and enterprises with multi-locations such as 7-11. The market is moving towards polarisation with higher-end and lower-end products gaining more share and the middle range disappearing.
  • The market is very competitive and sensitive to price.
  • The market lacks transparency; therefore, it is difficult to estimate the number of security companies such as system integrators, installers and distributors in the industry.
  • Market education is deemed very important and urgently needed.

Seminar: Eyes on IP Surveillance

Panasonic Systems Asia Pacific - Mr Takao Koishi, Manager
According to IMS Research, while analog camera is forecast to grow 4% annually on average between 2010 and 2014, Network (IP) camera is expected to grow at an astonishing annual rate of 27%. Panasonic indicated that IP will continue to grow to respond to the market needs of HD image, more accurate identification, and intelligent analysis. Furthermore, IP can reduce the long term total cost of ownership. As a result, IP-based technology will become more popular in the future.

Axis Communications (S) Pte Ltd - Mr Nafis Jasmani, Regional Manager
Network (IP) video will deliver high growth for the long term. IMS Research forecast that Asia will own 46% of the market by 2014. Axis felt that the shift from analogue to IP is unstoppable. Network video will not be just for surveillance; it will also be used for analysis to expand business.

Sony Thai Co Ltd - Mr Piyapoj Phakdeesuparithi, Deputy Manager
IMS Research reports that the annual growth rate for Thailand's IP and analogue video security market is approximately 30% and 8% respectively. Sony believes that the key growth verticals will be government, retail, and city surveillance due to the growing concerns for public safety in high threat areas. The Thai government is ready to support high quality security airports, seaports, and city surveillance in order to keep the country safer.

Milestone Systems Pte Ltd - Mr Lo Yew Seng, Director
Digitalcom Co Ltd - Mr Suwich Chitkasemsuk, Managing Director
Milestone Systems expressed that IP warrants high market potential in Thailand, especially in the public, energy, and retail sector. At the same time, challenges facing IP surveillance include the fact that IP solutions are still more sophisticated and not as reliable as the analog system. The IP system cost is relatively higher which might present barriers for penetration into the SME and retail sectors. Therefore, education and good service are they keys to sustain IP growth.
